So the question becomes, "So what do I do?"

US college activities that make your application stand out? Here's a 5-point checklist guide!

ON THE MYCC YOUTUBE CHANNEL, WHICH HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR ABOUT FOUR YEARS AND HAS 20,000 SUBSCRIBERS, THERE'S SOMETHING WE TALK ABOUT REALLY CONSISTENTLY.

최근 나왔던 조회수가 높았던 <한국 학생들 원서가 미국 대학 입학에 불리한 “명백한 이유” (논문 팩트 체크)> 영상에서도 얘기했던 것이기도 합니다.

"You shouldn't do the clichéd American college activities that Asian and Korean students do!"

But every time I do! Conversely, there's a question I get asked all the time.

IF NOT, WHAT EC ACTIVITY SHOULD I BE DOING...?

Everyone tells me not to do the obvious, but I don't know what to do...

THERE'S NO RIGHT OR WRONG, NO RIGHT OR WRONG, NO 100% ABSOLUTE RIGHT OR WRONG ANSWER FROM A COLLEGE SITE OR AN ADMISSIONS OFFICER ABOUT WHAT'S A GOOD EC OR NOT.

But as a PhD in education who spent a decade studying and consulting on the US admissions system

I think I can give you enough guidance on what to do to give you a good advantage in the eyes of admissions officers with 5 activities 🙂 .

Hopefully, today's blog post will give you a good idea of what to expect and help you get started!

(3) Projects that converge different interests

A student who loves biology and art might create digital art of cells, or a basketball enthusiast might combine athletics and health-related research, a unique perspective that fuses two of your favorite intereststhat combines two of your favorite interests can really give your application the "kick" it needs.

(4) Leadership

Universities have a huge interest in identifying future leaders. If you look at the talent pages of any university to see what they're looking for, leadership is a big part of it. It's not just about titles or positions, it's about real leadership experience. Whether it's through internships, music, sports, or anything else, look for opportunities to demonstrate leadership.

(5) Part-time job (part-time job)

Simple tutoring or tutoring is also an all too common topic. We recommend experience in a real service job. Part-time work experience at places like Starbucks, McDonald's, or In-N-Out is a great way to demonstrate limited resources, time management, and interpersonal communication skills!

It's important to emphasize that these activities shouldn't be shouldn't just be a way to get into college.

Inauthentic and perfunctory activities done solely for college admissions can backfire. It's not just about the application, it's also about whether or not the student continues to pursue projects that show their passion afterward.
